Meditate Those Bad Habits Away

Hear what our instructor Kerry has to say…..

So we all have niggly habits that we want to stop but just can't seem to. Does this sound familiar? You try numerous times and then just give up because you can't do it and revert back. I've been here before trying to quit smoking and had the attitude that I was never going to be able to give up.

I've now been smoke free for 3 months and feel great for it!

Okay some will power will be needed but the meditation comes into play for the part when you feel stressed and want to reconnect with your habit. Don't think for one minute that you have to wait until you get home or have a set room and pose to meditate. The meditate on your breath is your best friend for this exercise.

Whenever you're feeling a bit stressed just sit or lie down, take a few deep breaths and close your eyes and then start to count the breath. Count on either the inhale or exhale (but keep it consistent, don't keep switching) and count up until 21. Once you reach 21 start to count backwards back to 1 and then continue again to 21. If at any point you lose concentration, just start back at number 1 again. About 5-10 minutes is enough for this. However if you don't even have that much time then just a couple of minutes will be fine. What you should notice when you open your eyes is that you feel more relaxed and less stressed and the urge that you had has either disappeared or lessened in intensity. The great thing is you can do this anywhere (apart from when driving!) so if you're at work you can spend a few minutes at your desk or find a quiet area and recollect yourself.

There's no limit on how often to do this, you do what feels right for you, what you should notice after a few weeks is that you feel you don't need to do this often as you did at the beginning because you feel less stressed and as a result the habit is breaking.

Give it a try and see what you can achieve!!
