For many of us, we don’t really think about how we will manage during labour. Without any preparation, ladies and partners can often feel very overwhelmed when it comes to labour with a lack of knowledge and skills to help them stay calm and relaxed.
Why is it important to relax during labour?
Think of it like this….
Your body is very clever, when you feel anxious, your body tenses and tightens. This means that all of your muscles, including the muscles in your uterus tense up. When this happens, it can largely impact on your body’s ability to birth at its best. Tension also increases pain in the body so this can actually make your experience of labour much more intense. Using the breath as an anchor helps to relax the mind and when the mind is relaxed, the body has no choice but to follow.
We have put together some quick and easy breathing technique tutorials that you can use during labour to help you feel relaxed. Using the breath during labour is an absolute game changer and knowing how to breathe through your contractions is something that will largely help in keeping you relaxed and focused during labour.
